Teaching Hispanic Education
(WUSF) - In a "community conversation," Juan Sepulveda discussed the issues facing Hispanics in education and how those issues can be addressed. Among the issues discussed were not only high drop-out rates among Hispanics, but also the importance of early childhood education:

"How do we help the aunts and grandmothers learn how they're the first teachers," he says, "and even more importantly how do we get them into really high-quality early childhood education? But all of this is really, it's all about cradle to career."

Sepulveda's stop in Tampa is part of a series of similar meetings that he's holding in 40 communities across the country. The information gathered at these sessions will be used to set priorities for the White House's Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.
