City of Dayton to recieve ARRA funds
(2010-02-01)
(WYSO) - A regional consortium led by the City of Dayton will receive $29.3 million in federal Recovery Act funds to support neighborhood revitalization. The Neighborhood Stabilization Program II funds will allow Dayton, Montgomery County, Kettering, Fairborn and the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority to demolish, renovate or finance renovation of approximately 1,200 vacant, abandoned or foreclosed structures. Dayton neighborhoods most likely to benefit include Santa Clara, the Greater Inner West area, Westwood, Twin Towers, Walnut Hills, Linden Heights and the Inner East area. The Dayton area grant is among the largest to be awarded in the state, second only to Cleveland/Cuyahoga County.
Commissioner Nan Whaley, who has been a lead advocate on land banking and revitalization strategies for Dayton neighborhoods, said, "The NSP II grant will help change the face of city neighborhoods most affected by foreclosure and the
economic downturn."
