Miami Valley StoryCorps : Patricia Maneri & Evelyn Sikes
"It’s surprising how many people stop us… They’ll say, ‘Why did you close that store? We need you! There’s nothing like it.’ And there isn’t. I think every town, especially a small town, needs a junk store. A trash with class store."
For 30 years there was an antique shop in Yellow Springs called the Malladoor. It sold everything from greeting cards to furniture to guitar picks. It was a one-stop shop, especially for Antioch College students looking to furnish their dorms. Patricia Maneri and Evelyn Sikes ran the Malladoor until it closed in 2005. Today, they are both retired and living in Yellow Springs.
