Live on Excursions: Bettye LaVette Photo by Elizabeth Fladung
Niki Dakota interviews Bettye LaVette on Excursions. LaVette will be performing at this weekend's CityFolk Festival in downtown Dayton. LaVette is renowned for her eclectic musical style, combining elements of rock, funk, R&B, country, gospel, soul, and blues.

In her interview, LaVette reminisces over her early beginnings in 1965 and her experiences with famous artists such as Otis Redding and James Brown humorously admitting, "Well, he wasn't that big then."

After listening to the original recording of her chart single "Let Me Down Easy" on Excursions, she states, "I almost cried."

LaVette has received critical acclaim for her latest release, Interpretations: The British Rock Songbook, which is a 12-song cover album with such British rock legends as the Beatles, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, and the Rolling Stones. She has previously appeared on National Public Radio's Mountain Stage, World Cafe, All Things Considered and Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!

LaVette will be headlining Friday, 9:30 PM at this weekend's CityFolk Festival, a three day multi-cultural celebration, at RiverScape MetroPark. For more information about the festival visit
