Defense Rests in Dixon Trial; Jury To Hear Closing Arguments

(wypr) - The mayor did not take the stand. And just two witnesses testified for the defense this morning. The first was a florist, who said he'd sent a pricey floral bouquet to City Hall for Mayor Dixon from her ex-boyfriend, developer Ronald Lipscomb. The card said "Anonymous."

Later, the Rev. Frank Reid, the Mayor's spiritual advisor at Bethel AME church in West Baltimore, told the jury that Dixon had always been honest in her dealings with him.

Outside the courthouse, Dixon's lead defense attorney, Arnold Weiner, suggested the state has not met its burden of proof to convict the Mayor.

"Well, you heard what the state promised they were gonna produce as evidence. You saw what evaporated."

Dixon now faces five counts, including felony theft. Closing arguments begin tomorrow morning,
