THE SIGNAL
The Signal, airdate 09.11.09
This weekend marks the 195th anniversary of Defender's Day, and we learn about the historic Battle of Baltimore (and the birth of our national anthem) when we visit with Fort McHenry park ranger Scott Sheads.
We also meet Robert Stewart, park ranger and historical re-enactor with the Fort McHenry Guard. This weekend, he and scores of other living history preservationists will be stepping into the fray of a mock battle armed with muskets and cutlasses.
Later this hour, writer Eric D. Goodman reads from his novel-in-stories, TRACKS, a book that zooms into the interior lives of a group of strangers on a train from Baltimore to Chicago.
And we talk about the intersection of the image and the word with poet and painter Barry Nemett.
