Brad Smith

ROCHESTER, NY (2008-06-02) Democrats in Greece say Dave Garretson is their choice to run for State Assembly in the 134th.

Greece Democratic Leader Jo Melecca-Voigt announced Garretson's selection Sunday evening, following a dinner honoring Monroe County Legislator Dick Beebe.

Meanwhile, The Monroe County Democratic Committee says it has a candidate for the 55th State Senate District. He's David Nachbar, who will run against six-term Republicanincumbent Jim Alesi of Perinton.

Assembly Candidate Garretson will run in the 134th against three-term Republican Bill Reilich who is seeking re-election. The district stretches south and west from the Lake Ontario shore in North Greece through Spencerport and Brockport.

Garretson used to own Futons & More and other local businesses and is currently a manufacturer's rep, selling furniture to stores in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This is his first try for elected office.

In the 55th District, David Nachbar is Vice-President of Human Resources at Bausch and Lomb. He says his career has focused on putting people to work, and he's running on the themes of lower taxes, job creation, and greater government accountability. Nachbar briefly ran as a congressional candidate in the 29th district before withdrawing after three-months.
