DiNapoli Website Tracks Local Government Spending
(2008-09-23)
(WXXI) - The state comptroller's office has created a new website, called Open book New York, where the public can view the spending habits of over 3100 local governments and school districts across New York State.

Comptroller Tom DiNapoli says the new website will allow people to easily access data about spending by their town or village government, their local school board, or even their fire district, with just a few clicks of a mouse.

"This is an important tool," said DiNapoli, who said the information is "more valuable than ever in these tough times that we are going through".

The greatly expanded information comes as local governments, as well as New York State government, are facing an economic downturn and rising budget deficits.

The site can be found at www.openbooknewyork.com
