Storm Knocks Out Power to Thousands
Rochester Gas and Electric's entire service area was affected by the wind storm, packing gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour.
Crews will be working through the day to restore power, as there have been numerous reports of downed trees and power lines throughout the region.
RG&E reminds residents to stay clear of downed power lines, even if they appear to be dead.
National Weather Service meterologist Bill Hibbert says the storm that swept through the area early this morning was the result of remnants of Hurricane Ike.
He says when the cold front came through, the spin induced by the remnants from Hurricane Ike created a wind storm here in western New York.
As a result, the area experience tropical storm-force winds.
