Assignment the World Marks 50 Years
(2008-09-11)
(WXXI) - A broadcast milestone was marked in Rochester Thursday morning when the TV program "Assignment the World" went on the air on WXXI-TV and more than 90 other public television stations around the country.

ATW is a 15-minute weekly news program for students from fourth grade to eighth grade. It began its 50th season today.

The program started in 1958 as one of the first productions of the old Rochester Area Educational Television Association. That organization founded WXXI in 1966.

Today "Assignment the World" is produced by WXXI and the Associated Press to bring the top news stories into classrooms each week. Teachers receive scripts each week and students communicate with the producers via email.
