Election 2008
NY 26 - Kryzan Big Upset Winner in the 26th District
Environmental lawyer Alice Kryzan says she benefited from the negative advertising between Davis and Powers, which she parodied in an ad of her own that came out in the final weeks of the race.
With 99 percent of the votes counted, Kryzan was leading with 42 percent against 36 percent for Powers and 23 percent for Davis.
Powers will appear on the ballot in November on the Working Families line. Kryzan said she was busy celebrating with her supporters on Tuesday...but that today she'll start working to unify the party behind her candidacy.
Kryzan will face Republican Chris Lee, a Buffalo-area business owner, in the general election in November. Tom Reynolds, who's held the seat for five terms, is retiring.
Davis had attempted to launch a third-party campaign, but state election officials ruled that he failed to sign the necessary forms, barring him from the November ballot.
