Bruno Compares Obama to Spitzer
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA
(WXXI) -
Former State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno livened up the New York delegation, when he gave a speech comparing Barack Obama to Eliot Spitzer.
Bruno told the delegation that people should beware of "articulate" "charismatic" candidates with Hollywood-style ads on TV, after what occurred in New York after the last election, saying the "late Governor Eliot Spitzer" will "do more to help deliver the Republican Party in New York State to victory than anyone else."
The former Senate Majority Leader, who famously feuded with Spitzer, said New Yorkers have learned the lesson of the importance of having two parties share power at the State Capitol.
Bruno, known for his candid speaking manner, called Obama a "wimp" and a product of marketing, and criticized times that Obama was absent from voting when he served in the Illinois state legislature.
The former Senator has high praise for Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, saying she proved she could "play in the major leagues", and that she was refreshingly genuine.
"People get sick and tired of the phony antics of politicians," Bruno said. © Copyright 2009, WXXI
