Elderly Chili Man Reported Mauled by Dogs ROCHESTER, NY (WXXI) - The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a 70-year old man was mauled by three pit bulls while walking in the Town of Chili early this morning.

Corporal John Helfer says the victim was walking in Chili Center at about 5:00 a.m. when he badly mauled about the face. Helfer says a witness at first thought the dogs were pulling at a garbage bag from the curb, but then realized the dogs were attacking a person.

Motorists surrounded the victim with their cars and tried to use them to scare the dogs off, but the dogs didn't release the victim until their owner arrived to call them off.

The victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and immediately went into surgery.

Chili Animal Control has seized the dogs, and Sheriff's Department investigators are working the the Humane Society regarding possible criminal charges against their owner.
