Paterson says Dems Must Pull Together
DENVER, COLORADO
(WXXI) -
Governor David Paterson added his voice to the opinions on Hillary Clinton's speech, calling it "brilliant", and "metaphysical", and saying she did what she needed to promote unity in the Democratic Party.
Paterson, who planned to vote for Obama on the first ballot, says Democrats, particularly Hillary Clinton supporters, have to be practical and move on now to back the party's candidate. Paterson says Clinton proved that she could see beyond herself to a larger goal, and he says Democrats, too should keep in mind the larger picture.
"Everyone has to think about how they're going to feel in mid-November, and how they're going to feel next year at this time," said Paterson. "We can't let our emotions get the better of us."
The governor, who in his own brief address to the convention made comparisons between Obama and Republican Presidential candidate John McCain, says the party now needs to end the "harmonious celebration " and "love fest", and make the case to the public why their candidate is better for the country.
