Christopher Seaman to Retire from the RPO

(WXXI) - Music Director Christopher Seaman will step down from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra at the end of next season.

Christopher made the announcement during a news conference Friday morning in Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre.

Seaman joined the RPO in 1998. He signed his current three-year contract extension in 2007.

Seaman is a former timpanist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and principal conductor for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Seaman, a native of Great Britain, is credited with the raising the performance level of the orchestra.

Seaman has recorded two CDs with the Rochester Philharmonic--one in 2001, the other in 2003.
