The Ribbon is Cut for the New Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre
(2009-10-07)
(WXXI) - Numerous dignitaries were on hand at the Eastman Theatre Wednesday afternoon to cut the ribbon for the new Kodak Hall.

The new performance hall has fewer seats, improved acoustics, renovated lobbies, and new seating.

Among those on hand was Kodak CEO Antonio Perez, who said it was a great day for Kodak founder George Eastman, the Eastman Kodak Company, and the community.

Perez said the new hall is good for Kodak, because a thriving community helps attract the best minds.

About 800 seats were removed on the orchestra level and the walls were re-shaped.

The new Kodak Hall is part of a $47 million renovation of the Eastman Theatre, which will be completed next year. The next phase includes a recital hall, teaching and rehearsal rooms, and an atrium.

Eastman Kodak donated $10 million to the renovation project.

When the renovation project is completed next year, the theatre will be in line with George Eastman's vision for the Eastman. A property owner on Main Street held out for more money, but George Eastman thought his demands were excessive. As a result, he refused to buy that parcel and, instead, had his original plans modified to accommodate the smaller space.

$13 million in state money was granted to the renovation project.
