RBTL Identifies Top Sites for a New Theater
The RBTL has been looking for a site ever since the county's Renaissance Square project for downtown Rochester died this summer.
RBTL Board Chairman Arnie Rothschild says meetings with developers will begin October 15th. He says the RBTL will move quickly because the theater is a critical element in the plans of many of the developers.
The RBTL received 15 proposals for a new theater site. While five of the sites have been gone to the top of the list, Rothschild says no site has been ruled out. In some cases, Rothschild says there is still incomplete information.
The five sites are: Clinton Crossings in Brighton; the Medley Center in Irondequoit; the Finger Lakes gaming and racetrack in Farmington; Canal Ponds in Greece and Gates; and a site in Webster.
Rothschild says it's still possible for the city to submit a proposal, but he points out the RBTL can't wait too long.
Rothschild believes it would not be feasible to renovate the Auditorium for the RBTL. Mayor Duffy thinks a renovation would be cost-effective. The mayor says the city will be hiring the Pike Company to conduct a renovation study.
