George Eastman House revives influential show
ROCHESTER, NY
(WXXI) -
This weekend (June 13th) a new exhibition of photographs opens at the George Eastman House in Rochester.
Actually, it's a recreation of an old show that, over time, has become one of the most-talked about shows in the history of photography. WXXI's Brenda Tremblay spoke with curator Alison Nordstrom about how a small show mounted in Rochester influenced a whole generation of photographers. The exhibition New Topographics: Photographs of a Man-altered Landscape, held in 1975 at George Eastman House, signaled the emergence of a new approach to landscape photography. A new version of this exhibition, organized with the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, will re-examine more than 100 works from the 1975 show, as well as some 30 prints and books by other relevant artists to provide additional historical and contemporary context. You can find information about opening events and a Friday night panel discussion at eastmanhouse.org. © Copyright 2009, WXXI
