Monro Muffler Posts Strong Second Quarter Results
(2009-10-26)
(WXXI) - Monro Muffler Brake exceeded analysts' expectations with its second quarter report.

The Rochester-based company is reporting earnings of $10 million--up 40 percent from a year earlier. Sales for the period were up nearly 14 percent to $137 million.

George Conboy, President of Brighton Securities, calls Monro a great example of a company that's benefiting from a difficult economy. He says consumers who are putting off the purchase of a new car are paying for routines maintenance, such as brakes and mufflers.

Just last month, Monro announced the acquisition of Tire Warehouse Central and Midwest Tire & Auto Repair. That brought the total number of new stores to 76 for the year.

Monro has updated its expectations for the rest of the fiscal year. The company predicts its sales will be in the range of $553 million to $563 million. That's up by at least $23 million.

Earnings for the quarter came to $.49-a-share. Analysts expected them to be $.47-a-share.

Monro Muffler Brake operates a chain of 784 stores along the east coast and in the Midwest.
