Triphammer Grill in Rochester's High Falls Will Close its Doors
The Triphammer opened for business on the west bank of the Genesee River in the summer of 1993. The restaurant has stayed in business while numerous other eating establishments and bars have gone under; those include Empire Brewery, Bru, Jimmy Mac's, Tiki Bob's and Jillian's. Now, Triphammer will be shutting down. Owner Jennifer Powers said she is not renewing her lease with the city; she chose not to elaborate.
Carlos Carballada is the city's Commissioner of Neighborhood and Business Development. He's disappointed that Triphammer is closing, but he does expect another restaurant to take its place.
Carballada says he's happy with current pace of development at High Falls--he just wishes it started five years earlier. The Mills at High Falls apartment complex opened earlier this year, and Stantec Consulting Services announced it would move its offices to High Falls.
The city, under the Johnson Administration, tried to develop High Falls into an entertainment district. The city, under Mayor Bob Duffy, is working to turn High Falls into an "urban village", featuring a combination of residential, retail, and entertainment spaces.
The Triphammer will close its doors at the end of November.
