PGA Scholarship Program to Help Rochester Graduates
(2009-08-05)
(WXXI) - The PGA is working with the Rochester community to provide scholarships for city students who are going to college.

It's called Reach for the Green and it's designed for Rochester high school graduates who have been accepted in college and who have had some experience in gold. That experience can include playing on a school team, being a caddy, or working as part of grounds crew.

The scholarship program was unveiled Wednesday morning at Oak Hill Country Club. County Executive Maggie Brooks thanked the PGA for for its efforts. "Children are the future," said Brooks, "and this is an investment in the future of the community and the welfare of our children."

The scholarship program is a partnership among the PGA, Oak Hill Country Club and the Rochester community. The first scholarship--totaling $1500--was awarded to Dustin Buckholz, a School of the Arts graduate.

PGA Business Director Earnie Ellison says the goal is to build an endowment so that more and larger scholarships will be awarded.

Ellison says it's important to give back to the communities which the PGA visits.
