RoCo Fights Funding Woes
(2005-09-27)
(WXXI) - Rochester Contemporary, a local non-profit arts organization, is faced with flat funding for the coming year, along with revenue that isn't matching up with expenses.

Tom Burke is the President of the RoCo board of Directors. He says The New York State Council on the Arts has informed RoCo that they will not get an increase in funding this year. That news comes on the heels of a 75 percent funding cut last year.

Burke says the board of directors has worked hard to reign in costs of operating RoCo but the agency if facing difficult times.

RoCo has also had trouble securing corporate sponsors and major donations.

Burke says the board just hasn't been aggresive enough in pursuing that line of funding. He says the board will more aggressively seek alternate funding for RoCo.

RoCo is devoted to local artists and for the most part alternative art. That can include 3-D and electronic mediums.
