Monroe County Opens First Dog Park
(2009-10-30)
(WXXI) - Furry friends now have a park of their own in Monroe County. County executive Maggie Brooks cut the ribbon on the Dog Park at Greece Canal Park today.

The park offers an acre of fenced land, where dogs can run off-leash, and breaks out spaces for large and small dogs. According to the county it was paid for by fundraising done by the Friends of the Monroe County Dog Parks.

To use the park, owners will have to register with the county's parks department, at a cost of $24 annually. Owners will also have to prove that their pups are licensed and vaccinated against rabies.

Hours for the new park are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 15, and extend to 9 p.m. through the summer and early fall.

More dog parks are also expected to come online at Ellison Park, Durand-Eastman Park and Powder Mills Park, as funds become available.
