Two New Road Repaving Projects Begin Monday
(2009-07-04)
(WXXI) - A pair of road resurfacing projects begin Monday, July 6. Drivers should prepare for reduced traffic flow and possible delays.

Route 531
Crews from Keeler Construction of Albion, Orleans County, will resurface Route 531 Resurfacing in Ogden and Gates in Monroe County. The $2.1 million project is funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

The work is from Route 36 in Ogden to Interstate 490 in Gates. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane within the highway work zone. Work will generally take place during the daytime. Work will be restricted to westbound lanes during the morning rush hour and to the eastbound lanes during the afternoon rush hour. This project is slated to be finished by fall.

Route 98
Crews from Keeler Construction will also resurface Route 98 (Oak Street) in Batavia, from Main Street to Noonan Drive, just south of the New York State Thruway entrance. The project is expected to cost $500,000.

That stretch of road will be reduced from four lanes of traffic to two, with room for parking on each side of the street. The Richmond Avenue intersection will also receive an upgraded traffic signal and new left turn lanes for traffic safety.

The New York State Department of Transportation says a single lane of northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained throughout the construction phase. Except for an approximately two-week period from mid July through the end of July when milling and paving operations are scheduled to take place, parking on the street will be permitted along Route 98. Access to all driveways and side streets will be provided at all times.

Work should be complete before school starts in September, if not earlier.
