Garth Fagan and MAG to Receive NEA Grants
(2009-07-03)
(WXXI) - Garth Fagan Dance and the Memorial Art Gallery are each receiving $50,000 grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

The money is part of the federal stimulus package approved by Congress earlier this year.

Ruby Lockhart is executive director of Garth Fagan Dance. She says the grant will be used to support three of the company's junior dancers. Lockhart says there are currently only 12 dancers with the company. The NEA grant, says Lockhart, is critical to the development of new dancers.

Lockhart says Garth Fagan Dance ended its fiscal year this week with a considerable deficit--approximately $300,000.

The Memorial Art Gallery will use its NEA grant for its educational outreach programs.
