Corning Mayor Announces for Congress
(2009-07-01)
(WXXI) - Corning Mayor Tom Reed is running for the Congressional seat now held by Democrat Eric Massa.

Reed, a Republican, made the announcement at a news conference in Pittsford Wednesday. Reed says his candidacy is not about party politics, but about what the people in the district are saying. He promises to focus on the immediate needs of the 29th congressional district.

Reed is in his first term as mayor of Corning.

Massa last fall defeated Republican incumbent Randy Kuhl in a close race.

Congressional elections will take place in November of next year.

The 29th district extends from the Southern Tier to parts of Monroe and Ontario counties.
