City Clears Brewery for Sale
(2009-02-13)
(WXXI) - High Falls Brewing Company will remain a fixture in downtown Rochester.

Mayor Bob Duffy announced an agreement Friday, that preserves the company that brews Genny Cream Ale and Dundee's Honey Brown.

High Falls owed significant back-taxes to the city and county, and its purchase by the private equity firm KPS Partners was imperiled by that debt.

In the agreement made today, High Falls will pay the city and county for outstanding taxes for the 2008-2009 tax year. Prior tax commitments will be erased for a payment of $500,000.

Duffy says that keeping High Falls in business is important to the city's economy.

"We were faced with a situation where we could have lost 300 ... high paying jobs."

The final transaction has to be approved by Rochester City council. It will be an item on the council's agenda on Tuesday.
