Rochester Company Takes on High Falls Challenge
(2008-10-15)
(WXXI) - The Rochester City Council has approved a deal with a Rochester company to take over management of the High Falls Centers.

S.E. Baker and Company will get $108 thousand over three years to manage the city's interpretive center at Brown's Race and the adjoining buildings, some of which are vacant.

It will convert some of the vacant space into offices and turn the former Tiki Bob's restaurant into an events center. It will also try to find a new operator for the vacant McFadden's restaurant space.

The city developed those properties beginning 16 years ago in an effort to make the High Falls an entertainment district, but they never fulfilled that hope. Two previous attempts to bring in nightclubs and more restaurants failed, and the city took over management of the site last year.

S.E. Baker is based in the High Falls. It's agreement with the city calls for the company to aggressively seek tenants for the buildings to reduce operating costs.
