Dems Back Jon Powers for Congress
(2008-06-10)
Jon Powers is the choice of party chairs across the 26th Congressional District.
(wned) - The Democratic Party Chairs from the seven counties comprising the 26th Congressional District today announced their unanimous support for candidate Jon Powers of Clarence.

They did so at a news conference at Erie County Democratic HQs in Buffalo's Ellicott Square Building.

"Jon Powers, by the overwhelming sentiment...is the best choice that we feel can help bring the troops home from Iraq, to bring gas prices down and, most importantly, to bring the cost of health care down," said Erie County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan.

The 29-year old Powers expressed his gratitude for the confidence that party leaders have shown him.

"I'm proud to be the endorsed democratic candidate in New York's 26th. We're looking to build the support and unite the party to bring real leadership and change both to Western New York and Washington," said Powers.

Powers faces Democratic primary opposition from Akron area businessman
Jack Davis and Alice Kryzan, an attorney from Amherst.

They are after the seat held for years by Republican Thomas Reynolds, who is retiring.
