Local author, Julie Wittig, will present her new ebook "Groundlings: The Abandoned Burrow" to children and families on Saturday, December 28 from 1-2 pm in the Boulder Junction Community Center meeting room.
There’s a great story behind the new e-book “Groundlings: The Abandoned Burrow” and its author and illustrator, Julie Wittig.
Wittig half jokes a dog raised her while her parents ran a Boulder Junction resort. “No, really,” she says. She grew up exploring woods, investigating nature, reading scientific fact books and listening to her grandfather’s make-believe stories.
Her sense of adventure has endured into adulthood. When she’s not creating cutting-edge digital design work for major companies such as Disney, Mattel and Sony, she drives and hikes across the country. These month-long journeys inspired her debut children’s e-book “Groundlings: The Abandoned Burrow” (CyberTales, $9.99), the first in a series that push the boundaries of technology for tablet books.
“As I was driving, I saw large expanses of soil on both sides of the highway - in Kansas,” Wittig says. “I wondered: what happens beneath?”
Wittig has created an underground world that both children (especially ages 5 to 10) and parents will love. Besides engaging with the characters, kids will be dazzled by interactive technology - by tapping a finger on the screen, crystals and tree roots illuminate. Parents will appreciate the original storytelling that teaches STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) principles. It's the kind of storybook adults remember from their youth; one they could really savor a few chapters at a time before bed.
This presentation is free and refreshments will be served. For questions and further information, please call the library at 715-385-2050 or email email@example.com.
