Loyola Professor Reacts To President's Plan To Reduce Droput Rates
Dr. Andre Perry of Loyola University has studied the drop-out problem, and says solutions are complex.
"It sounds good, particularly here in New Orleans where we have so many kids who are school aged that are seemingly hanging out, but it is an expense and a policy conundrum for the states to manage."
Dr. Perry says options for keeping students in school through graduation include using technology, the Internet and night classes. He also says worker-age labor laws need to be in synch with education goals.

He's calling on every state to step up the fight to reduce high school dropout rates by making it tougher for students to leave school. He says students should be required to stay in school until they graduate or reach 18 years old. null
