The world's first international music festival and the most renowned, the Salzburg Festival continued its over 90-year history of presenting great orchestras, soloists, opera and theatre in the historic and picturesque Austrian town where Mozart was born.
We'll bring you concerts from the 2011 Salzburg Festival which will include performances by the Vienna Philharmonic, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Salzburg Mozarteum, soloists Susan Graham, Angela Denoke, Yo-Yo Ma, Mitsuko Uchida, Ian Bostridge, Albrecht Mayer, Emmanuel Pahud and violinist Renaud Capuçon. Conductors will include Franz Welser-Möst, Sir Colin Davis, Ainars Rubikis and Trevor Pinnock.
The broadcast concerts will include commentary by conductors and performers as well as conversations with concert-goers and critics from around the globe. The world's stars have been drawn to Salzburg not only for large-scale concerts and exposure, but also for the intimacy and acoustic excellence of the historic Mozarteum Hall and the new House for Mozart.
