Our Town The Stroudsburgs Documentary Premieres June 12 on WVIA-TV
The divide between Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg in Monroe County runs the length of a bridge over Broadhead Creek. The entire region, known to most as "The Burgs", has grown to include a state of the art hospital, and an ever engrossing academic atmosphere at East Stroudsburg University.
Local merchants in the heart of Stroudsburg boast a trendy attitude with diverse branding; while the historic grandeur of the Monroe County Courthouse is one of the region's first eco-friendly buildings way before "going green" was the norm. The historic Sherman Theater has been given new life and luster; and the energy of a thriving arts community can be experienced from Main Street venues right into the heart of the Delaware Water Gap.
Get to know the multi-cultural beauty and dynamism of "The Burgs" in Monroe County: where people find it a great place to visit and a better place to call home.
Residents from East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania volunteered their time to become videographers and storytellers for "Our Town: The Stroudsburgs". The residents narrowed down which landmarks, events and local stories the documentary would explore. Each subject was assigned to a volunteer to videotape and participants were then interviewed about why they chose to become involved.
As northeastern Pennsylvania's and the central Susquehanna valley's public television station serving a very large geographic area, the "Our Town" project was initiated in an effort to involve the communities and their residents with WVIA. The "Our Town" documentary series is intended to treat viewers to the many personalities, perspectives, and possibilities that local towns have to offer.
WVIA TV will rebroadcast "Our Town: The Stroudsburgs" on Tuesday, June 12 at 10 p.m. immediately following its premiere. Viewers can also watch the documentary on Saturday, June 30 at 9 p.m. and Sunday, July 1 at 1 p.m. on WVIA TV.
