Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the topic on the next live Call the Doctor on WVIA
(2012-03-30)
(wvia) - Not sure how to handle post-traumatic stress? Our panel of professionals will take your calls and e-mails about post-traumatic stress disorder or as some call it, PTSD on the next all-new live Call the Doctor on Tuesday, April 10 at 7 p.m. on WVIA TV.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an emotional illness that was first formally diagnosed in soldiers and war veterans and is usually caused by terribly frightening, life-threatening, or otherwise highly unsafe experiences but can also be caused by devastating life events like unemployment or divorce. Symptom types include re-experiencing the trauma, avoidance, and hyper arousal. Over 5 million people suffer from the illness in any one year. Girls, women, and ethnic minorities develop PTSD more than boys, men, and Caucasians.

Joining our moderator, George Thomas are Vince Carolan, L.S.W., C.A.D.C. from A Better Today Incorporated, Dr. Matthew Dooley, psychologist and expert on PTSD, Mental/Behavioral Health at Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, and via video Dr. Francine Shapiro, author of "Getting Past Your Past" and senior research fellow at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California, director of the EMDR Institute and founder of the nonprofit EMDR-Humanitarian Assistance Programs, which provides pro bono training and treatment to underserved populations worldwide.

Viewers may call in questions during the live show at 1-800-326-9842 or submit their questions online at http://wviatv.org/live-show-comments.

Within 24 hours of its live presentation this program will be made available online on WVIA On Demand at http://wviaondemand.org/contusmore/?playid=2.
