WVIA to Broadcast Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Governor William Scranton on Aug 14, 2013
(wvia) - Family and friends of the late Pennsylvania Governor William Warren Scranton will gather on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 14 to celebrate his life. WVIA FM will broadcast the memorial service live from the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Scranton starting at 10:30 a.m., while WVIA TV will present a special television broadcast of the memorial in its entirety starting at 7 p.m.

Former Governor William Warren Scranton, who passed away on July 28 at the age of 96, was a direct descendant of the founder of the city of Scranton, was educated in the Scranton Country Day School and served his country in World War II. His government career included being a Special Assistant to a Secretary of State, Congressman, Governor of Pennsylvania, US Ambassador to the United Nations and serving on 10 Presidential Commissions. Gov. Scranton served on boards of many major American companies and was heavily involved in the industrial development of our region in terms of the creation of various industrial parks and bringing companies in to fill those parks. He was also a supporter of various local non-profits, colleges and universities.

Immediately following the conclusion of the special television broadcast of the memorial service, WVIA TV presents the WVIA Original Documentary Film, William Warren Scranton: In A Clear Light followed by all 3 parts of the WVIA Original Special Presentation, Gov. Bill Scranton at WVIA: An Open Book.

PCN, the Pennsylvania Cable Network will also broadcast the memorial service coverage from WVIA live on Wednesday, Aug. 14 starting at 10:30 a.m. to all Pennsylvania residents through their cable partners.

A Celebration of Life: William Warren Scranton is being produced by Via Studios Global, a division of WVIA Public Media.
