WVIA to Broadcast Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition

(wvia) - April is National Poetry Month and WVIA is kicking it off by broadcasting the 2013 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition on Monday, April 1 at 7 p.m. on WVIA-TV.

In February top regional high school students participated in the 2013 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition at the WVIA Public Media Studios in Pittston, PA. A total of 10 students participated with the winner advancing to the state competition in Harrisburg, PA.

The students featured are Luke Bond from Wallenpaupack High School, Serena DeSeta from Abington Heights High School, Eillie Helcoski from Riverside High School, Kassandra Holley from Carbondale Area High School, Amanda Huber from Wyoming Valley West High School, Victoria Hunsinger from West Scranton High School, Mayling Ljomah from Tunkhannock Area High School, Benjamin Maitland from Mountain View High School, Amanda Rucker from Montrose Area High School, and Jennifer Slagus from North Pocono High School.

The 2013 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition is sponsored the Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit (NEIU #19) and WVIA and is supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Lackawanna County, Art Works, and The Poetry Foundation.

Encore presentations of the 2013 Poetry Out Loud Regional competition can be seen Thursday, April 4 at 8 p.m., Sunday, April 7 at 3 p.m., Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 21 at 3 p.m. on WVIA-TV.

Plus, you can hear a poem read by a student each day in April at 1 p.m. on WVIA-FM, as we celebrate National Poetry Month.
