Pediatric Obesity is the Topic on the next live Call the Doctor on WVIA
Obesity in children and adolescents is a complex disorder that has increased in prevalence significantly in recent years. Being overweight puts children at risk for many health problems. Including type 2 diabetes and increases the risk of adult-onset obesity and cardiovascular disease.
Many factors, including genetics, environment, metabolism, lifestyle, and eating habits, are believed to play a role in the development of obesity. However, more than 90% of cases are idiopathic; less than 10% are associated with hormonal or genetic causes.
