(wvia) - This Friday at 8 p.m. watch Warner Bros. Pictures classic film Arsenic and Old Lace on WVIA Friday Night at the Movies presented by Lenahan and Dempsey on WVIA TV.

Cary Grant stars as Mortimer Brewster, a confirmed bachelor, who is also a newspaperman and author known for his criticism against marriage. Despite his diatribes, he falls in love with the girl next door and in the opening scene we watch them being married at city hall. Now he needs to make a quick trip home to tell his two maiden aunts.

While trying to break the news, Brewster finds out these two sweet old ladies have a murderously funny secret. Josephine Hull and Jean Adair reprise their stage roles as Abby and Martha Brewster, the spinster sisters who delight in offering poisoned elderberry wine to old men, then burying them in the basement.

Frank Capra directs this black comedy based on the Joseph Kesselring play of the same name Raymond Massey, Peter Lorre, and Priscilla Lane also star.
