Student Musicians featured in the Celebration of the Arts concert on WVIA FM PITTSTON, PA (wvia) - WVIA salutes eight outstanding area high school students as it broadcasts the Celebration of the Arts concert on Sunday, July 11 at 3:55 p.m. on 89.9 WVIA FM.

Throughout the school year many talented students from across the region were showcased as Artist of the Week on WVIA TV and wvia.org. Finalists in both the visual arts and performing arts competed during the Celebration of the Arts Gallery Showing and Concert at the WVIA Studios on May 2, 2010. The Artist of the Year in the performing category was pianist Donna Yocum from Hazleton High School. Phoebe Olsommer from Western Wayne High School was the Artist of the Year in the visual category.

The Celebration of the Arts concert on 89.9 WVIA FM will feature Artist of the Year Donna Yocum, along with trombonist Andrea Burleigh (Forest City), singer Gabrielle Gilroy (Mid Valley), violinist Danielle Greenwald, (Wyoming Valley West), pianist and composer Harrison Ingermarson (Lakeland), singer Katie Laputka (MMI Prep), singer Torey Mengoni (Valley View), and cellist Gemma Sturdevant (Abington Heights).

WVIA's Artist of the Week and Artist of the Year educational programs are sponsored by NEIU 19 and the Pennsylvania College of Technology. The 2009-10 Artist of the Week features can be viewed at http://www.wvia.org/educational.
