Howard's End this week's feature on the WVIA FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES
A tale of drama and romance, Howard's End is a magnificent adaptation of E.M. Forster's novel from producer Ismail Merchant and director James Ivory. Love and class struggles are the concerns of two families in turn-of-the 20th-century England. The film focuses on Emma Thompson and Helena Bonham Carter who star as a remarkable pair of unmarried, middle-class sisters. Seeing beyond class distinctions, the sisters manage to entwine their lives with an aristocratic clan headed by Anthony Hopkins and Vanessa Redgrave.
Howard's End was nominated for nine Academy Awards and received Oscars for best adapted screenplay by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala and Best Actress for Emma Thompson for her portrayal of elder sister, Margaret Schlegel.
Movies are back. Don't miss these award winning classics and contemporary favorites on the WVIA Friday Night at the Movies presented by Lenahan and Dempsey each week starting at 8 p.m. on WVIA TV.
