NEW YORK, NY
(WNYC) -
Twenty small, grassroots organizations, from all five boroughs, are sharing a one-million dollar grant by an anonymous donor. Last week, the fund for the City of New York gave out its fifth annual Union Square Awards. They are named after the 14th Street Park, a historic gathering place where New Yorkers have organized and spoken out about major issues of the day. A non-profit which advocates for the homeless and a group fighting to reform the Rockefeller Drug Laws are among those being honored. WNYC's Richard Hake profiles one of the winners, a group which challenges the way society looks at fathers.
