MPS reports safer school year MILWAUKEE (wuwm) - Monday marks the beginning of Safe Schools Week in Wisconsin. So, we thought it was a good time to do a safety check with the state's largest school district. Milwaukee Public Schools were plagued by violence last year -- numerous fights broke out, weapons were found in students' lockers and dozens of teachers and staff were assaulted. One change in the district this year is a new visitor policy - requiring people to enter the main school doors, check in and show ID. WUWM's Erin Toner spoke with MPS Safety Director Peter Pochowski. He says the visitor policy is working pretty well so far.
