No reported staph outbreaks in Milwaukee
Milwaukee health officials said Friday they're not aware of any significant increases in invasive staph infections in the community. A federal report this week said drug-resistant bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus are responsible for more deaths than AIDS in the U.S. every year. Since that report, institutional settings, such as schools, nursing homes and gyms, have been scrambling to disinfect their facilities to prevent staph outbreaks. WUWM's Erin Toner spoke about the issue with Paul Biedrzycki, manager of disease control and prevention at the Milwaukee Health Department.
