PETERSBURG (WUSF) - With less than two months remaining until the election, it seems like we're hearing more about lipstick on pigs and hockey moms than the economy and high gasoline prices. But how much of that is the media's fault? Somewhat, according to Connie Schultz. She's the Pulitzer-Prize winning political columnist at the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

National Public Radio news analyst Juan Williams agrees - to an extent. But he says it's something the media cannot ignore.

Williams also says he believes there is enough covert or outright racism in parts of the Democratic Party's white, working-class base that they can swing the election in favor of John McCain. But Schultz believes enough young voters will be motivated to vote and should swing the election in favor of Barack Obama.
