Superintendent Search Continues
(2008-09-12)
Chairwoman Nancy Bostock
(WUSF) - The Pinellas County School Board is again searching for a new leader. The man who was offered the superintendent's job has turned it down. Board members will meet Tuesday to consider whether to choose from the remaining finalists or start anew.

Alberto Carvalho turned down the offer to become Pinellas School Superintendent. Instead, he will stay in the Miami-Dade system where he was offered the chance to replace his boss who resigned.

Pinellas School Board Chairwoman Nancy Bostock understands Carvalho's decision to stay with the community he knows.

"That's the risk the board takes when you set your sites on a top leader," Bostock said.

On Wednesday, the Pinellas School Board voted 4 to 3 in favor of Carvalho.

After he rejected their offer, Bostock contacted the other two finalists, Nicholas Gledich of Orange County Schools and Julie Janssen of Pinellas county Schools. Both are still interested in the superintendent's post.

The Pinellas School Board will meet Tuesday to consider their options.
