Firing Up a New Museum
TAMPA
(WUSF) -
The Tampa Fire Department's 1911 headquarters building has been transformed into the first Tampa Fire Department museum.
Volunteers had to rustle up $1.4 million in state grants and donations to make the museum a reality. One of the ways they plan to pay for the day-to-day operating costs is to rent the old upstairs dormitory as a banquet hall. That's where the firefighers would jump at the sound of the bell and hop on the pole, shimmying down to the fire engine. © Copyright 2009, WUSF
