Election 2008
Floridians Front and Center
TAMPA
(WUSF) -
The Democratic National Convention has been a whirlwind since Floridians arrive in Denver. WUSF is checking in with delegate Ana Cruz and spoke with her via cell phone Monday night shortly after the major speeches ended.
The surprise of the first night came with the appearance of Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy who is battling brain cancer. Ana Cruz and all the Florida delegates had prime seating for his speech front and center on the convention floor.
She said it was good to see him healthy and vibrant. Cruz added that the sweetest moment came when Michelle Obama brought out their two girls and did a live satellite feed from Kansas with her husband and presidential hopeful Barack.
Assessing the first day, Cruz said the national party is treating Florida like a "rock star" and has done a good job making its delegates feel welcomed and wanted.
