Working at New Polk Jail
BARTOW
(WUSF) -
The idea behind Polk County's new jail work camp is that if an inmate keeps working, he can help pay for his stay behind bars. If he continues to collect wages, he can pay fines or other bills, such as child support.
The money will help out the families of the lowest-security inmates. Inmates pay the county back with some of their income. And officials say it frees up space in the more expensive, higher-security jail.
