Evacuation Orders Lifted
(2008-08-19)
(WUSF) - Tropical Storm Fay made landfall on Florida's southwest coast early Tuesday, bringing soaking rains and gusty winds. But, Fay never achieved hurricane status. It's left bay area emergency managers resting easier. Evacuation orders have been lifted for Hillsborough and Pinellas residents.

Pinellas County emergency management officials tracked Tropical Storm Fay through the night. And just before 6 o'clock this morning rescinded a mandatory evacuation order.

Schools and the Pinellas county government will remain closed today. The Pinellas citizens call line and emergency operations center will stay operational until noon.

Hillsborough County also lifted its mandatory evacuation order. County offices, schools and the City of Tampa offices will remain closed for the day.
