Brooker Creek Plan Revised
(2008-08-05)
Brooker Creek Sandhill Cranes
(WUSF) - Pinellas County Commissioners are deciding how to manage the largest natural area remaining in the county. Staff will present their plans for the Brooker Creek Preserve to the commission this week.

The 8,000 acres of the Brooker Creek Preserve consists of pine flatwoods, wetlands, and hundreds of different species of plants and wildlife. It was established in the early 90s to protect and restore native habitat in the northeast corner of this densely populated county.

Planners want to set aside some 200 acres that water utilities could use in the future.

The commission will hear the revised management plan Thursday morning at 9:30 at the Pinellas County Courthouse.
